Any Cooler You Like - Oil Cooler R&D, Part 2: Data and Pre-Sale!

Well, our SS and our 2.0T have quite the sibling rivalry, and as a fellow older brother, I can empathize with how the SS must feel to be challenged by this little 2.0T. However, older siblings are also often blessed with an innate ability to do things far better than their younger siblings (my sisters don't read car blogs, so I've basically got free reign here). As such, I'm sure the SS has some confidence in its oil cooling ability, and rightly so. But how will the 2.0T stack up?

Younger siblings, ungrateful beneficiaries of free-ridership, often enjoy the ability to hop on the coattails of big bro and whisk themselves away into a world of PG-13 movies, unearned responsibilities, and other undeserved privileges. The 2.0T is no exception, as it's already been able to finagle itself this oil cooler. And guess what! You don't need to wait

Keep your Cool- Transmission Cooler R&D, Part 3: Test Results

The yellow GT is back in our R&D facility to show us a thing or two about testing trans coolers. Upon the GT's arrival, we wasted no time getting the pony car saddled with our testing rig.

Cool to the Core - Radiator R&D, Part 1: Stock Review and Renderings

One of my favorite things about working for Mishimoto is the sheer breadth of our many different projects. We're working on much more than only Chevy parts! Our garage always contains some interesting combination of trucks, hot hatches, muscle cars, and more. With all that fun stuff just meters away (separated from me by nothing more than a thin layer of clear glass, no less), it's a small wonder I get anything done around here.

All this considered, I still occasionally receive some form of the following response after telling people where I work. "Oh yeah, I know Mishimoto. They make radiators, right?"

"...we engineer an array of Camaro parts that encompass everything from oil coolers to intercooler pipes."

This would be like calling Google a search engine company" is it? Yes. But that doesn't account for the tremendous success of all its other products, from

Hot and Cold - Intercooler Pipes R&D, Part 1: Stock Review

When I was young, I had a serious tendency to become fixated on a specific item or experience. Starry-eyed and captivated, I'd stubbornly obsess over my desire-du-jour at the expense of appreciating what was going on in the moment - something that was lost on me at the time, but hardly seems unique now, among my generational peers (or even those decades my senior). It's a fault upon which I've improved vastly with age and "wisdom", but I regularly notice reflections of the same tendency beyond the scope of my own experience, even regarding one's attitude to something as simple as Chevy parts.

You see, although this phenomenon tends often to be associated with my generation, I would argue that its application extends much more broadly to human nature.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard my aunts, uncles, and parents rehashing their college days, often followed by "I wish I had taken advantage of X

Overflowing with Style - Overflow Tank, Part 2: Pre-Sale

Hello everyone, and welcome to the long-awaited second chapter in the saga of the Mishimoto BRZ expansion tank! I know it's been a little while since our first update, and you all have waited patiently, so I am excited to share some good news about these BRZ parts (or FR-S parts).

    Mishimoto's 2013+ BRZ Expansion Tank Pre-sale

You might remember from my last update that the stock, ghostly-looking overflow tank that haunts the engine bay of your BRZ, GT86, or FR-S really spooked us. So much so, in fact, that we felt obligated to provide you with an alternative - a way to absolve the BRZ of negative energy and transform your engine bay into something inspiring, rather than terrifying.

Cool Operator - Oil Cooler R&D, Part 3: Track Testing

Update: Check out this awesome video of our track testing for this oil cooler!

What more could a company filled with automotive enthusiasts want than a track day as a workday?! If it were up to me, I would start building our offices adjacent to my favorite tracks and have every meeting in the infield, because I can't think of a more excellent way to spend the day.

I have to begin by thanking you all for collectively pushing for track data. While the type of testing we normally conduct is sufficient for learning how well our products perform under most conditions, nothing instills confidence at the track like pushing your creation to the ragged edge. Because, after all is said and done, that is where it counts. I am no stranger to racing of all sorts, and I can't think of anything more frustrating than working all week, or month

  7. Getting into the Thick of It - Intercooler R&D, Part 1: Stock Review

Getting into the Thick of It - Intercooler R&D, Part 1: Stock Review

As a writer, the relationship between words and ideas has always interested me. Often, the same idea, expressed the same way, can have wildly different implications in different contexts.

An idea may be exceptionally positive in one instance, while equally negative in another. For example, let's take the word "quick." I think anyone who ended up on this blog post can agree that a quick Camaro is a good thing, right? But what about a quick job interview? "They must have really loved me!" Maybe"

    job

Let's look at another word, "thin." We love thin phones and tablets; with every Apple keynote, we're once step closer to replacing the phrase "paper cut" with "smartphone cut." But when it comes to intercoolers, thin is generally

I Am the Aux Rad - Auxiliary Radiator R&D, Part 4: Decision, Test, and Pre-Sale

Welcome to a very special update on one of the more unique Camaro parts we've got in our R&D arsenal: The Mishimoto 2016+ Camaro Auxiliary Radiators. If you're just joining us now, learn all about the stock auxiliary Camaro radiator in our first post.

Last time, we discussed two possible design options for these heat exchangers, but now I've got the word on our final decision. I'll explain in detail the efforts and testing methodology we employed to come to our decision, but first, let me make an announcement:

2016+ Camaro Auxiliary Radiator Pre-Sale has begun!

Also, the Mishimoto 2016 Camaro Auxiliary Radiators have been confirmed to fit the 2.0T with the HD cooling and brake package!

  9. One Cool Hellcat - Aluminum Radiator R&D, Part 1: Design and Test Fit

One Cool Hellcat - Aluminum Radiator R&D, Part 1: Design and Test Fit

Usually, when I write about our products here at Mishimoto, I'm looking for the underlying meaning behind driving.  Our performance intakes don't just let more air into your engine; they let it breathe as fast as you do when you're pushing the car to its limits.  Our oil coolers don't just keep oil cooler; they give you the confidence to shift a little later, to push the throttle a little harder.  Our products aren't just about what they do or how they do it; they're about possibilities and living a little faster than everybody else.  This time, however, my job is a bit simpler.  This time, I'm writing about our Dodge Charger Hellcat aluminum radiator and the point is clear: it doesn't blow up.

    A Not-So-Peaceful Mind

You see, about a year ago, Dodge released a factory service bulletin (FSB) for "intermittent coolant weepage from upper radiator hose or radiator."  Yet, if you search

The Tale of the Ugly Hose - Silicone Hose Kit

Mishimoto 2016+ Camaro SS Coolant Hose Kit

Greetings, Camaro owners, and welcome to the first and only blog post about the new 2016+ Camaro SS silicone radiator hose kit. To get you all in the mood, let me grease you up with a little ditty about something to which we ALL can relate. (maybe).

    pablo-1

The above account, though fictional, is an example of something very real that could happen to anyone. This charming old tale does an excellent job at touching on two issues that stock coolant hoses bestow upon an otherwise wonderful vehicle.

Issue #1: The Ugly (but we can fix that)

When you open the hood of your SS,
