  1. Conquering the Catch Can - Catch Can R&D, Part 1: Initial Fabrication

Conquering the Catch Can - Catch Can R&D, Part 1: Initial Fabrication

Here at Mishimoto, we know the importance of a good catch can as far as preventative maintenance goes. For most vehicles, installing a catch can means protecting your engine from the silent monster that is blow-by. Blow by can consist of excess oil, fuel, moisture, and pure evil. Engines with direct-injection, like our good friend the Titan XD, are prone to blow-by creeping its way back into the engine through the intake, and caking debris on valves which can be very harmful to an engine over time. To read more in depth about blow-by, check out our complete write up on Blow-By 101.

  2. XD Induction Hose R&D, Part 1: Design Plans

XD Induction Hose R&D, Part 1: Design Plans

We're on a roll with new Titan XD project development! In addition to our plans for improving the factory intake, we have decided to implement an upgrade that is simple and awesome. What we'd like to do here is develop a silicone intake hose that will replace the factory intake tube.

The factory intake tube is a well-designed piece, but it has room for improvement. For instance, we can increase the volume of air that flows through the tube, which will only benefit this 5.0L Cummins turbo diesel. The factory piece will be comparatively restrictive in size when compared with our planned design.

XD Intake R&D, Part 1: Stock System Review

Some exciting things are happening for this new Titan! In addition to the projects already planned, we want to develop a performance intake that will squeeze out a bit more power from this 5.0L V8 Cummins Turbo Diesel. We managed to get an accurate dyno reading with a few adjustments, which we know a few folks have been struggling with on this truck, but more on that later - let's dive into the stock intake!

With our first prototype intercooler and shroud assembly complete, it was time to test fit and make necessary changes or adjustments.

Treating the Titan - Exhaust R&D, Part 1: Stock Evaluation

Our Titan XD has been poked and prodded, and the next upgrade we are working on is a DPF-back exhaust. Before we begin development, we like to take a peek at the stock version to determine which upgrades we can make to the design. Our first observation was that this exhaust is, well, plain. Not to worry; our goal is to spice up the design a bit to give this Titan more to show off.

  6. Refining a Titan - Intercooler Pipe Kit R&D, Part 1: Stock Evaluation

Refining a Titan - Intercooler Pipe Kit R&D, Part 1: Stock Evaluation

Over the last month we have been going all out on the Titan XD, and we are pleased to report our progress on the hot- and cold-side intercooler pipes. As with most development projects, we first examined the factory components in order to see how we might improve them. At first glance, the intercooler pipes appear to be your average factory aluminized steel pipes. Further inspection, however, revealed that these pipes were not in good condition. The hot-side pipe had a bit of oily film coating the inside and worse still, the cold-side pipe had a startling coating of rust. Yes, you read that right; the pipe that supplies cool air to this brand-new truck's turbo is coated with rust.

A Cooler Cummins. 2013+ Ram Intercooler R&D, Part 1: Factory Intercooler

Our product line for the Dodge Cummins continues to grow each year with the addition of interesting components that help you take your truck to the next level. These include efficient aluminum radiators, durable silicone hose kits, as well as top-notch intercoolers and intercooler piping kits. Our intercooler coverage ranges from 1994 through 2012, but in 2013, Dodge changed the Cummins intercooler design substantially. So once again, we are ready to take a shot at improving the factory system.

Mishimoto Welcomes the New Titan XD

Recently, quite a few exciting development vehicles have arrived at our headquarters, but none received quite the same welcome as our Titan XD.

Last Friday, we set out to our local Nissan dealership to pick up the newest member of the Mishimoto family, and we wasted no time in making the Titan feel welcome. While the head of our Production Department was inside doing whatever it is you do when purchasing a new vehicle, the rest of Team Titan was wasting no time in revealing to the world the proud new owners of this Titan XD.

Winterize Your Diesel: How to prepare your truck for the coldest of enemies!

If you’ve faced a winter or two with your diesel truck, you are probably aware of the challenges that lie ahead for this coming season. Proper vehicle preparation is key to reducing vehicle downtime and making sure your truck survives low  temperatures. Although modern trucks are well set up from the factory for cold climates, there are always preventive measures that will make your life a bit easier when the temperature drops. Our team has prepared an in-depth checklist, with the goal that your truck makes it to spring without incurring too much wear.

  10. Boots, Blowouts, and Boost Tubes: How to Build a Reliable CAC Piping System

Boots, Blowouts, and Boost Tubes: How to Build a Reliable CAC Piping System

So, let’s talk boots! No, were not talking about Red Wings, steel toes, or Timberlands. This article is about ensuring that your charge-air cooler boots remain intact and in place to keep your car or truck on the road and out of the garage. So what’s the big deal? You clamp the boot down, and if it blows off you clamp it a bit tighter. While this might be a quick solution, that boot blowout is likely to occur again unless you address the issue properly. If you have a modified car or truck that produces an absurd amount of boost, pay close attention to this article for tips about selecting the right products for the job and creating a reliable system. No one wants to be left on the side of the road in frigid weather when a cheap boot decides to commit suicide. Okay, let’s jump right in!

    Charge-Air Cooler Basics

This section is for those who are completely new to turbocharged vehicles. If you have a basic understanding of the intercooler
