    Makin' Our Camaro Purr - Catback R&D, Part 1: Stock Review

    Here I stand, firmly within the land of people who spend egregious amounts of money on car parts, as I look back and wonder how in hell I got here. Those of us in my position often place the blame on a nasty little creature called the "mod bug."

    The mod bug, as they say, is a tricky little bastard. Though you may think most damage-imposing biting insects live in Australia, I can assure you, this one is alive and well in the Americas. I've had firsthand experience as a victim, and it isn't pretty - just ask my bank account.

    The feeling of that bug biting for the first time is unforgettable. At the beginning, you say "just an exhaust and springs, and then my car'll be perfect". Enter mod bug. Before you know it, you're dropping a Ferrari engine in your wide-body FR-S.

    Cooling is Coming- Nissan Titan XD Intercooler, Part 2: Final Prototype

    Preparation is an elusive concept. No matter how much time you spend getting ready, you find yourself at the event remembering everything you did not bring. Perhaps this applies more to me, the least prepared individual of all. I constantly find myself in situations where if I had prepared, I could have been ahead of the eight-ball rather than feeling like it was tumbling down a hill after me. For instance, I once showed up to a track day without a tire pressure gauge, rookie mistake. Since then, I have learned the merits of taking some extra time to be prepared.

    The Titan XD is no different. The truck is relatively new, so many won't choose to modify it just yet, but we have a feeling that the XD has big things in its future. That is why we decided to be prepared with our intercooler.

    A Cold Heart for the Camaro - Oil Cooler R&D - Part 1: Stock Review & Plans

    For the past seven years the 5th Gen Camaro SS has been a staple of track days at Willow Springs, Road Atlanta, Laguna Seca and just about every other road course in America. Another staple of those track days has been a spike in mild heart attacks as those Camaro SS owners glanced down at their oil temperature gauge to find temps in the 290+°F range.  Even off the track, though, a hot day mixed with a heavy foot can lead to oil temp related heart problems for both you and your Camaro.

    Everything in Balance

    When it comes to modern engines and driving, oil temperatures are a balancing act between hot and cold; thin and thick.  When straight-weight oil, also known as single-weight oil (like SAE 30), is cold, it's thicker and more viscous.  Higher viscosity means that the oil flows slowly and sticks to surfaces longer.  This also means, however, that on cold start-up, it's much harder for the engine to move the oil and thus bearings and wear surfaces

We learned that too much flex spells possible consequences, so we made it our goal to stiffen things up. But how did we do it?

    2017 is going to be the year of the  TurboChevy for Mishimoto. We have several parts for our 2016 Camaro 2.0T scheduled to release in the coming months. I'll start you off with one of the very first items we are about to release for the new year - our new Silicone Radiator Hose Kit.

    As the title states, we are making sure that everyone with a turbocharged, LTG equipped Chevy Camaro has options when it comes to cooling, and those options must look good. We don't take cooling lightly here at Mishimoto. After all, that is what we have built our reputation around. To ensure that you never have to worry about cooling issues due to cracking and leaky radiator hoses, we have developed a full set for both Camaro 2.0Ts that are equipped with the heavy-duty (HD) cooling package as well as the standard cooling package.

    A Cooler Cummins- Intercooler R&D, Part 5: Test Results

    Waiting is never an enjoyable pastime, and I feel confident saying this as a rather impatient individual, especially when it comes to ordering parts. After the initial wincing as I type my credit card information in and press confirm, I try to be patient only to end up refreshing my tracking number periodically throughout the day. Even at this moment I have a UPS tab open anxiously awaiting a shiny new oil pump for my track car. Well, the wait is over (for 4th-gen owners at least); testing is complete!

    Before we could begin testing, Team Mishi had to tackle the install. With a large core featuring a bar-and-plate design, this intercooler is a hefty unit. You will certainly want to enlist the help of a buddy when it comes time for installation. Our engineer, Jason, called in a reinforcement in the form of our video host, Rob.

    Research and Development (R&D) - Work directed toward the innovation, introduction, and improvement of products and processes.

    The research and development process can get tricky. Sometimes, at a moment when you think you have a perfectly working product, that's ready for the masses; something just goes awry. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. We welcome situations like this, especially during this late in the development stage, because we're able to catch unexpected issues early. It's not like we want you to deal with them. That's why we do so much testing. As the definition states, this work needs to be directed, in part, toward the improvement of products and processes. We take this attitude with each and every design that leaves our R&D facility for production.     No One Likes a Leaking Cap - Washer Fluid Reservoir R&D, Part 2: Improving on OEM

    When we began work on our 2016+ Miata washer fluid reservoir, our primary goal was to improve the aesthetics; we designed the tank to look killer, make your engine bay a little cleaner, and we also reduced the volume of the reservoir, saving a few pounds versus stock if you're comparing a full Mishimoto tank to a full stock tank.

    One of the major benefits of sharing our R&D process among enthusiast communities is the opportunity to learn even more about what we can do to make the best possible product. Once I revealed our reservoir to the forums, I was quickly made aware that there is an annoying flaw with the stock tank: a leaking cap!
