    Heritage Revamped - Baffled Oil Catch Can Kit R&D, Part 2 - Prototyping

    Heritage isn't something that pops up overnight. It's a long, arduous process that can take decades to develop fully. Specifically speaking, it takes time to be proven in the automotive world and compile a pedigree as lengthy as the Corvette. Since the 1950s, Chevy has put in the work and continues to push the 'Vette's limits, pushing it into near supercar territory. All that hard work, however, could be snubbed by some carbon crusted intake valves. So, while the Corvette works on proving itself in the mid-engine realm, we'll continue to prove ourselves by protecting its engine with a catch can. We started with a prototype.

    The first step in the process is determining the catch can placement and which systems we plan to tap. As we alluded to in the last post, we're opting for a dual can setup, running our cans in line with both the PCV and CCV systems to ensure that we're covering all angles.     Back From Pasture - 2021+ Ford Bronco 2.7L Baffled Oil Catch Can R&D, Part 2 - PCV-Side Concept and Design

    The Bronco is back, which is basically old news at this point. However, as the hum of excitement subsides for this legend's return, the buzz is now shifting to the endless possibilities to customize and accessorize this off-roading machine. Naturally, Ford anticipated the owner's needs to personalize their Broncos, launching the line with a plethora of accessories to appear more adventurous and act the part. However, missing from the catalog was a means of adding a layer of protection against the onslaught of blow-by on the intake tract.     Shared Heartburn - Direct Fit Catch Can R&D, Part 1 - Concept and Design

    It's not out of the ordinary for auto manufacturers to share parts across their lineup. The practice of repurposing a component rather than producing something completely new and unique is a huge money saver. This is why we see the Chevy LS engine everywhere, and why the Accord is also sporting a turbo-flavored setup similar to the Civic. We already spent some time rerouting blow-by in the K20 powered Accord, very much aware that the 1.5T would share some of the drawbacks.

    With the K20C4 replacing Honda's V6 Accord option, they still needed something to fill the gap between that and the mild Hybrid. Enter the L15B7. The 1.5T variant is powered by almost the same engine found in the Civic. Granted, there were a few adjustments needed.     At some point early on in our car obsessed years, we've all dropped in a cone filter, with a shiny tube, possibly with some flimsy heat shielding and called it an intake. We've also claimed we could feel the unharnessed power now bellowing out from under the hood. We've all been guilty of it. Really, it was just louder, and maybe with the right combination a few extra horses were added to the pack. Here at Mishimoto, we've moved way past that, as you can see from the amount of fabrication going into developing our initial intake prototype, not to mention the sheer amount of testing that has lead us to our first production sample.
